Enrichment+ Programmes

 

Chinese Enrichment (P1 to P2)

For young learners, cultivating an early interest in the Chinese language and building strong foundational skills are essential. Yang Guang Chinese Enrichment programme covers all aspects of learning the Chinese language: speaking, listening, reading and writing. 

Our class sizes are kept small to allow greater teacher-student interaction and active learning is facilitated through the extensive use of multi-media aids and stimuli.

 

Further, moral values (in-line with MOE’s focus on character development) are weaved into the programme and this supports our students’ overall holistic development.

 

Students will also acquire all the necessary skill sets required for higher level work in Primary 3.

Course Elements:

​  All courses are in-line with MOE’s curriculum and format

  • Hanyu Pinyin

  • Oral, listening comprehension, reading, short comprehension passages and one-picture composition writing

  • Show-and-tell

  • Usage of visual stimulus to build and retain vocabulary

  • Platform for expression of feelings and thoughts required in oral and one-picture composition

  • Usage of multi-media stimuli such as short video clips,  songs and stories for active learning

What Your Child Gains:

Chinese Enrichment (P3 to P5)

Athis stage, the key focus is on developing analytical, processing and inferential skill sets for comprehension. Through the use of mind-mapping techniques, students are taught how to identify, analyse, process and infer critical information in comprehension passages.

 

Lessons also include listening comprehension, oral exam practice and extensive vocabulary building. Our small class sizes enable our teachers to closely monitor each individual student’s learning and progress. This allows us to cater to every student’s needs, thereby helping them achieve their full potential.

 

Students will also acquire all the necessary skill sets required for higher level work in Primary 6.

Course Elements:

  • Mind-mapping skills for use in the analysis of comprehension passages

  • Analysis of visual text comprehension/stimulus (书面互动)

  • Word study skill exercises to build up vocabulary bank

  • Oral (picture conversation and e-oral format), listening comprehension and reading practice components

  • Multi-media stimuli such as video clips, songs and stories for active learning

Integrated Programme (P4 & P5)

Yang Guang’s integrated programme is no ordinary 4-in-1 programme. The essence of each of the 4 components (listening, speaking, reading and writing) is skillfully extracted and taught at every lesson so that students can master all the required skill sets. Although this is an academically rigorous class, the lesson is well paced so that students will get to practise composition writing and complete comprehension passages in every lesson among other learning points. This programme is a fast track to the PSLE and serves as a bridge for students preparing for the PSLE.

Higher Chinese Language (P5)

Higher Chinese Language (HCL) gives students a competitive edge when they apply to a SAP/ IP secondary school. This is a rigorous program and it is of paramount importance that the student grasps all the necessary skillsets required especially for comprehension and composition. Through Yang Guang’s exclusive mind-mapping and structured questioning techniques, students will be better equipped in coping with the demands of HCL.

 

For HCL paper 1 (composition and situational writing):

  • -Enhanced writing and critical thinking skills so that there will be a seamless flow of ideas and story formulation.

  • Proficiency in analysing questions for situational writing or continue the story (完成文章).

  • Produce high quality academic writing in a structured manner

  • Step-by-step guide to write model HCL composition 

For HCL paper 2:

  • Enhanced ability to tackle challenging comprehension passages  

  • Techniques to decipher underlying messages in higher order thinking questions and how to craft complete answers

  • Mastery of critical thinking skills so that students can summarise and form logical conclusions for comprehension passages.

  • Although this is an academically rigorous class, we put the fun back into studying HCL by engaging students in well-paced class activities, coupled with education media.

  • Structured questioning techniques for composition writing

What Your Child Gains:

  • The ability to produce stellar written pieces

  • Critical thinking skills to tackle compositions of different themes and higher order thinking comprehension questions

  • Mastery of all the necessary skillsets required for HCL from specialist teachers (Native Chinese speakers with Master Degrees and above) of HCL

 

Chinese Enrichment+ (P6)

This is an exam-based programme for Primary 6 students where all examinable aspects of the PSLE are covered.

 

In the area of composition writing, our specially developed structured questioning techniques will equip students with critical thinking skills so that they follow a seamless thought process flow that brings  from  the idea generation phase through to story formulation and finally to the written piece, thereby producing stellar written pieces.

 

The comprehension component focuses on analytical, processing and inferential skills and through Yang Guang’s exclusive mind-mapping technique, students are taught such skills to aid them in tackling comprehension passages.
